We are proud to announce that Simon Field, expert taster, from International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Savantes will give his first olive oil masterclass in Ireland.

Simon will show you how to taste olive oil for flavour and quality, using oils from around the world. This is a unique opportunity to learn this special skill.

Presenter information

Simon Field

Simon Field, expert taster and organiser of Savantes, is a producer of organic olives and olive oil, table olive processor and olive oil trader. He is the author of the Olive Handbook, The Extra Virgin Olive Oil Taster’s Companion, The Table Olive Handbook, The Olive Oil Maker’s Handbook, and The Olive and Olive Oil Marketer’s Handbook. He travels extensively organising tasting and cooking programmes in Europe, Australia and the United States, as well as researching the production, sale and culinary uses of extra virgin olive oil. More recently he has organised Team Tasting Championships in Europe – beginning with Spain in 2016 and France later this year.

 

Karen Cryan

Karen Cryan was described by the Irish Times as “one of a rare breed called olive oil sommeliers, having trained in the art of tasting and evaluating extra virgin oils in Italy and London.” She is also an associate member of the Savantes Register (for recognised skill in tasting olive oil). Karen has taught olive oil tasting in the Institute of Culinary Arts, Cathal Brugha Street; Fallon & Byrne and the Phoenix Park Visitors’ Centre among others. She has also participated in judging at the Armonia International Extra Virgin Olive Oil competition in Parma, Italy as well as the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards in Dublin.
