In 2001 Extra Virgin Olive Oil Savantes started as an idea, almost 20 years later International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Savantes has close to 100 Associate Savantes and Savantes worldwide. Savantes come from many pursuits in the olive oil and related industries and have all demonstrated skill and knowledge by passing the Savantes Review.

There over a thousand professionals who have participated in Savantes events and over 200 producers who have supplied extra virgin olive oils for tasting.

This highly talented and professional group from many countries provides a unique opportunity to create an environment where free thinking about the present and future of the olive oil industry is encouraged.
This is the purpose of the Savantes Renaissance Conference.It will also provide a unique opportunity for enhancing networks and making new friends across many regions and professional pursuits.

Savantes Review
The Conference will start with the Savantes Review Skills Test to refresh tasting ability and provide an opportunity to achieve Savante status.

Selection of Presentations

Savantes participants will have the opportunity to submit papers articulating new ideas and opinion covering every aspect of the industry. Some will be selected for presentation at the Inaugural Conference in Seville Spain on 26 March 2019. Others will have the opportunity to distribute their papers at the conference. All will be published online, subject to technical and ethical appraisal.

Priority will be given to papers from Savantes, Associate Savantes, Producer/Suppliers and participants in Savantes 3-day programmes, in that order.

Papers must be submitted according to the following process and editorial requirements. The papers seen to be advertising existing products or services will not be accepted. The language for the Conference is English and all papers must be presented in this language.

To ensure equitable distribution of subjects, papers will be categorised as follows prior to selection.

The time allocated for presentation of each selected paper will be 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions.

Submission of Outline of Papers for Selection

Savantes, Associate Savantes and Savantes Suppliers are invited to submit outlines of no more than 100 words in English of their proposed presentations.
These outlines must be submitted by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 31 October 2018.

Prospective presenters will be advised of their selection by 8 November 2018 and must confirm their intention to present by 23 November 2018. The programme will then be finalised and published on 30 November 2018, with any gaps being filled by a second round of opportunities to present.

NB. Selected Presenters will still need to Register for the Conference and be responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Those who do not register by 31 December will have their presentations replaced. (Registration fee €250 for Savantes, Associate Savantes and Savantes Producer/Suppliers).

Forum on the Future of Savantes

Following the Savantes Renaissance Conference a forum on the future of Savantes will be held for attending Savantes and Associate Savantes. This forum will advise the principals of Savantes of the aspirations and expectations of Savantes participants and opportunities for development of the movement.

Review, Certification and Register of International Savantes

During the session ‘Savantes Review’, participants can be evaluated for Associate Savante status and Membership of the Register of International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Savantes.

The taste tests assess tasting skill and knowledge of the range of styles and flavour of extra virgin olive oils from around the world.

To achieve Associate Savante status a score of 60% is required, a score of 80% gives the participant full Savante status and Membership of the Savantes Register.
